• The Thorughbred is one of the fastest and most valuable horse in the world • This horse in the principal means of improving other breeds • The breed evolved in England in the 17th and 18th centuries • It is also known as English Thoroughbred, British Thoroughbred, TB, blood stock, blood horse or Thro-bred • During the reign of Charles II of England, horse racing was wildly popular • The fastest mares (likely including the extinct Galloway pony) were crossed with Arabs, Barbs and Turks to improve speed and performance • Three Arab stallions of note played a major role in the development of this breed - Byerley Turk, The Darley Arabianand the Goldolphin Arabian • All Thoroughbreds registered in the General Stud Book (started in 1791) can be traced back to these three Arabian stallions • Currently Thoroughbreds are raced in over 50 countries • The shoulders are long and sloping and the long, arched neck is graceful • The chest is deep and the strong back is short with a deep body • The hindquarters are muscular and the legs are hard legs • A bold horse which has great athletic ability and physical and mental stamina • Spirited Types Of Thoroughbred (Horses are bred for a specific category as each has different requirements): Type One: those that race on the flat Type Two: those who race over jumps • Categories:
