i have shetland but i cant aford the £30 livery and i was wondering if i did up my garden with a shelter rubber matting ect could i be able to keep him at home?
my garden is long but not very wide :-(

it has a woden fence around the outside to?
i am desprate and this is my last resort otherwise i have to sell my pony }

I know a few people who keep there shetlands in there garden as long as the fenceing is ok and there is no resurction on your home ie know livestock and is ok in size it should be ok when mine got lameness i keept him on a 12ft by 12ft pato as i dont have stables

if you have a bit of space that should be fine, check out your planting though an with the council. plants can be very toxic.

My only issue would be that you are keeping a VERY sociable animal on his own. They need company particularly their own kind.

£30 is alot for shetland livery, have you asked around a bit more?

thanks i know they r very sociable but i do have 2 horses 1 shetland 1 loan a pony and they spend loads of time 2 gether but fortunately when my mum said i could get a horse she also siad tht i had 2 pay for every think wich ido i was thiking about your comment about sociable and i though would it be a good idea to stop loaning and get another pony an sell my shetland 2 a forever home?

I think the shetland is going to be better off in a herd. I run a small rescue and rehoming service, i dont mind Finding him a home for you if you wanted.

With the current market, shetlands are hard to home due to the amount of them and the limited uses.

Where abouts are you?

If your running out of cash flow then get down to one pony for yourself and see how you cope then. Struggling to keep several is not fun and very hard work, well done for trying to think of the best for him and accepting that maybe selling would be the best option…

thankyou so much i have decided to sell him n get a horse tht i can fully care for its ok i have found a home for but thanks for helping i am going to start looking for a new horse tht i can loan out to get some money so i can give it whts best if u know an cheap horses or free to a good home ponys/horses i ould be happy to here about the :-)
