| Hi, there is something wrong with my fish's poo. Its normal except it seems to have a clear filmy thing around it and there are air bubbles between each bit of poo. Also it floats to the top of the tank. Can somebody tell me what is wrong with my fish please? Thanks |

Hi. I'm guessing they are cold water goldfish or fancy goldfish. They are gulping food from the surface of the water and as they do this they are swallowing air. It is normal for fish excrement to have a film around it - this is what holds it together in worm-like strands. I wouldn't worry too much about it as it's not doing them any harm. Only in very rare instances will this cause disruption with their swim bladder. Alternatively, you can feed them sinking food in tablet form, but beware the larger greedier fish as they have a tendancy to attempt the whole tablet at once - I lost a large comet who swallowed a whole tablet designed to feed up to 25 fish. Freeze dried worm cubes are probably the best idea as they can be stuck onto the inside of the tank (not much use on the outside eh!)and break up into the water in strands as opposed to clumps. Shame no one answered you sooner. Hope this helps. M |
