| hi my name is shanti i have 1 red ear slider and 1 ornate box tortoise i have had 5 other red ear sliders who have died and 1 gopher tortoise who died it has upset me deeply and jayde and hunter are all that i have left hunter recently became sick he is my box tortoise on friday may 01 2009 i noticed he wasn't moving and i thought he had passed away i was very upset and then i saw his paw move and noticed he was blind so i sat up with him through the night checking on him every hour till 8 a.m. came around and took him to the vet the vet said he had a vitamin a deficiency and gave him a vitamin a injection and told me for the next 3 weeks every friday i have to give him this oral medication which i know is going to be hard cause it's not like he is just gonna open his mouth and take it but they also said they gave him an injection of fluids like they do in the hospital when they hang the saline bags so his paws were puffy for awhile but here it is sunday may 03 2009 at 1:30 a.m and he is still blind and has not eaten for a couple of days the vet said it would take him about 3 days to get better but he has not moved from the spot were i put him a couple of days ago every half an hour i sprinkle some luke warm water on him to keep him hydrated and every couple of hours i put a warm water washcloth on top of him and cover him with his favorite red fleece blanketif someone can tell if i am doing something wrong or maybe reccomend something to get him better it would be grately appriciated i now know that i was leaving some stuff out of his diet like he was getting alot of mealworms and he loved to eat corn on and off the cob he ate strawberries and baby snow peas the vet said i should now just feed him sweet potatoes,tomatoes,strawberries,squash and green leafy vegetables she said that romaine lettuce had the best nutrients in it and of course he could still have his worms which he loves the heck out of and reccomended crickets before i got hunter he was being abused the person was just feeding him dog food and put him in a tank with newspaper now i don't have him in any kind of enclosure him and jayde have free roam of the house except when jayde eats she goes in her mimi pool in the bath tub but they both have water bowls that are in the closet and of course they have their basking light from hunter being abused he has an over grown beak his nails are all crooked and messed up and he has no reptile skin on any part of his 4 legs just his skin his poor little soft legs any ways sorry so long but if anyone can help me out with hunter and maybe suggest something for a speedy recovery...thank you shanti(if anyone would like to email if the message is gonna be long that would be great anyone is welcome to email me...lawlessangel76@hotmail.com)}}} |
