Thanks alot for all that information, means alot! We've actually tried everything on your list, apart from putting her cage outside. She's been gone for 6 whole days now (since Thurs 20th Nov), what's the likelihood of her still being around? Or do you think its probable that she's been found and kept as we've put posters everywhere and big notices have been placed in all our local newspapers. We actually live very close to a reservoir, theres lots of trees, fishing ponds and ducks. My partner walks over there daily, he goes twice a day making familiar whistles and calling her name. Any tips on anything else that could maybe attract her, maybe places near the reservoir that shes more likely to be, or maybe certain times of day that we're best going over there? Like I said its been nearly a week since she got out now, and weve not had as much as a sighting. Is there still a chance that she could be found? |

Hope you find her soon. Some ideas here: AT HOME ~Put your birds cage in the garden, with lots of food, in case he's nearby. ~If you have other birds put them by an open window, or play a recording. SEARCHING LOCALLY ~Look up high - tops of trees, on high buildings, as well as in low trees and bushes. ~Listen at dawn, when birds are most vocal (the Dawn Chorus) - until it is light enough to search for food. ~Listen at dusk. ~Check for strong winds which may have pushed your bird in one direction ~Look near water, such as ponds rivers lakes and lochs. ~Start within say half a mile but be prepared to spread farther as time goes on. ~Ask everyone you see/can think of to spread the word. Such as dogwalkers, people who deliver catalogues (Avon, Kleeneze, Betterware etc) neighbours who walk to work, children who walk to school. ~Look in places feral pigeons roost - church towers and so on. ~Talk to aviary owners (even if they have just budgies/finches), pigeon fanciers, free range chicken farms etc in your area. ~ Don't forget local farmers if it is a rural area (try looking in Yellow Pages under "Farmer" and give each a ring as they are people who will be out in the countryside where the public don't tend to go) START a diary and note down everything you do, each day. ~List where you put posters (so you can go back and take them down), and who you phone, fax or e-mail - include their name (so you can get back to them). POSTERS AND LEAFLETS ~A5 for notice boards and flyers, A4 in upside-down A4 punched pockets for fences and lamposts. ~If you can, use a picture. ~Brief description, including what the bird looks like when flying. (colour, length of tail etc) ~If you are afraid someone will keep your bird to sell say he/she will need veterinary attention (which of course it will). ~If you give a home phone number try and have an answerphone for when you are out. WHERE TO PUT POSTERS ~Lamposts ~fences ~local pubs and hotels ~telegraph poles. ~Phone boxes ~Anywhere people queue (bus stops, chip shops etc). ~Ask to put them on Community Centre and Church notice boards. ~Ask if they can go on school notice boards and if the children can be asked to watch out. ~Using the local yellow pages - all Veterinary surgeries, petshops, dog grooming parlours, etc. ~Local shops, big supermarkets, petrol stations ~Bus and train stations ~Library vans ~Newsagents, and ask all paperboys to watch out. ~Local dairy, and ask all milkmen to watch out. ~Postal and parcel sorting offices and ask all postmen to watch out. ~Speak to your local Neighbourhood Watch. CONTACT LOCAL POLICE STATION and stations in surrounding areas CONTACT LOCAL PAPERS and papers from surrounding areas - put an advert in the lost and found section. ~Keep checking the Found Adverts in all the newspapers in a wide circle around your area. ~(Ask friends to help with this where possible). Free ad papers: http://www.preloved.co.uk www.admartfreeads.co.uk http://www.adtrader.co.uk LOCAL RADIO - ask for it to go out during the days' programmes and to go on their helpline, if they have one. Also LOCAL TELEVISION. (If you don't find your bird quickly it would be worth contacting these again and asking if they would cover your human interest story) CONTACT PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE LOCALITY (Yellow pages again) Gardeners, TV aerial erectors, windowcleaners etc etc. IN THE LONDON AREA Birdshop.co.uk 0208 925 7782 (Walthamstow) is a very helpful lady doing all she can to help reunite birds and their owners CONTACT ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETIES Listed in yellow pages NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND INTERNET SITES RSPCA -- http://www.rspca.org.uk RSPB and ask all birdwatchers for help -- http://www.rspb.org.uk/ http://birdsgoneastray.atspace.com http://www.pet-talk.co.uk/ National Theft Register (John Hayward tel 01869 325699) e-mail jh@ntr.supanet.com http://www.ibr.org.uk/ http://www.ukpetsearch.freeuk.com/psarea1.htm http://www.theparrotsocietyuk.org/lost-parrots.php (If your bird is chipped .... don't forget to notify the microchip company too) You can register with the Missing Pets Bureau: http://www.missingpetsbureau.com/home/services/petback_ons.aspx Or telephone 0870 1 999 999 online forums and sites -- www.parrotlink.co.uk www.parrot-links.co.uk http://www.parrotlinks.com www.parrotpassionsuk.com/index1.htm www.birdhotline.com/viewlost.htm#England www.helplostpets.com/ http://www.featheredflyer.net/index.php?showforum=62 http://perfectparrots.co.uk/index.php?board=8.0 Go back to all the people, organisations on a weekly basis, asking for news and reminding them that you are still looking. |

| We have lost our pet African Grey. She accidently got out 48 hours ago. We're from Wigan, Lancahire, and did a big search of the area straight away. We have put up colourful posters, with a photo, everywhere & have even put flyers through peoples doors. Weve put ad's on our local radio station and in our local newspapers. We are desperate to get her back and would much appreciate any tips that would help in finding her and bringing her home to her family. |
