hi - thanks for the replies but have decided to keep percy - he is a pet bird that needs one on one human attention for much of the day - somewhere where there are lots of other pets or a sanctuary where he will not get the interaction he needs is not the best option for him but thanks for the replies x

If you contact the Exotic pet refuge they will offer a home for life to the bird. 01778 345923 (EPR)

to be honest - i don;t want him taken from pillar to post. a parrot sanctuary will rehome him with a fosterer first so i would rather he just go from me to the right home.

Have you thought about the parrot sanctuary? they may know someone he will be suited to if they cant have him themselves.

Good luck in rehoming him

percy - our senegal is looking for a new home - this has been a very difficult and emotional decison but he keeps attacking our disabled linnie and our neighbours are not fond of his shrieking - he is generally quite quiet but does have noisy days! i have been so careful to keep him separate (difficult in a tiny cottage) from our linnie - only letting them out separately etc and bringing percy upstairs while i am working on the computer but percy has started to even fly downstairs to attack poor pootle (he has not done this with our cockatiel so not sure if he hates other birds or just our linnie) through the cage bars. We have already had to rush pootle to the vets once after percy bit him and he is so tiny and has a disabled leg that i am really starting to fear for him!

Percy is a hand reared male - 5 this year so at the puberty stage! he is a big healthy bird who we took on because his owner who had had him since a baby developed allergies and he had been stuck in his cage at the local pet shop for over a month while they were trying to find him a home. We were not looking for another bird but felt so sorry for him!

He is generally very tame and loving with me - gives me kisses - coos at me, likes cudddles etc but he can be feisty and tries it on when you want him to go back in his cage etc. He has never bitten me but he has beaked me and he will need a confident female owner with experience. He does not like children and although has got used to our dogs in the house on an evening - he is not fond of other animals either.

He has a hit and miss relationship with my husband - loving one minute - flying at him to bite him the next!but i think this is jealousy because he sees me as his mate! He is not a great talker but can say hello very clearly when he feels like it and has started to do a lot of mumbling! he has picked up lots of noises/whistles since been with us - he makes kissy noise, sneezes, laughs when we do etc which is really funny and does funny whistles back and forth with me that i have taught him.

He can be noisy when he wants attention but is not demanding if he knows you are about and can hear you. He loves sitting on the clothes horse and nibbling at clothes - he can spend hours amusing himself like this but really needs more time and attention than we can give him.

It is important that percy takes to his new owner - i will not consider travelling to rehome him - if someone really wants a bird then they should be prepared to meet them in their home environment to see how they get on with them. He is a very loving bird - just has an attitude at times! He craves and lives for attention so he needs someone who is at home a lot in the day like i am. The right home is more important than price but he comes with an excellent quality metal parrot cage with playtop, his good quality food that we order over the internet and all his toys so only sensible offers will be considered. no dealers/breeders/people after a freebie please. i am happy for percy to be rehomed on a trial period where he can be brought back and payment refunded - it is essential he finds the right, long term home for him.

sorry this is a long post but i am a very honest animal lover and want people to be aware of what they are taking on when they home a parrot. this has been a very difficult decision to make so would appreciate if anyone interested in percy really thinks about whether they could provide the right home for him before emailing me at mrwoo8@aol.com instead of posting here as i am always checking my email. thanks jo x

we are just off the a1 in boroughbridge, north yorks.
