My rabbit Angel is very funny, she sometimes gets too excited while she runs around the garden, we dont have grass for her to eat but she probably wouldnt eat it because she either lies down-she is very lazy or she just runs about hiding behind the bikes and under the garden table. My funny story is this- my sister wanted to do Angels hutch so I let her, my sister turned around and saw Angel at the other end of the garden hiding behind the bikes because we were playing hide-and-seek with her, she turned back around and Angel jumped from the bottom of the hutch to the middle and scared my sister so much she nearly fell over!!!!!!! Angel seemed quite pleased with herself-untilshe had to get back in the hutch! Blisajane@aol.com
I should like to take a few minutes to tell you about one of our rabbits Mr, Socks who, very sadly, is no longer with us. We already had 3 bunnies, a buck and a doe (both neutered) and a spayed female who lived alone as our other doe wouldn't accept her. We decided to find her a friend and bought Mr Socks from a local pet shop. He was a 7 month old Dutch x Lionhead and very timid.
After the initial introductory scuffles, he settled to life with Candyfloss very well and they made a lovely couple and I was so happy. Mr Socks always did remain very nervous with us, but as long as he was happy with his wife, and she loved him too, we didn't mind that. He had lovely big ears that went into a V shape and was the colour of a wild rabbit with just little white front socks, hence his name.
Unfortunately, we only had him for 5 months and almost to the day of his first birthday, I found him sitting hunched up and unwell in his run one Sunday evening in late September. I brought him indoors overnight but he was dead the following morning. We are not quite sure what killed him, but we had heard him sneezing a couple of times when we brought him in and his nose sounded a bit bubbly to me when I held him.
I can't tell you how heartbroken I was to find him laying there. I wanted to give him such a good life and it was such a terrible shock. He is buried in our garden beneath a paving slab and my 10 year old son writes almost every day on his grave with a chalk stone, that we will always love him and still miss him. It gets washed away by the rain almost daily, but he never gives up, bless him! We will never forget him. I wrote this after reading the sad story of Speckles as I know how Speckles' owner felt. I don't feel I made the most of Mr Socks or tried to get to know him well enough and that will always haunt me! So you aren't alone! mel.ra@ntlworld.com
A sad story. I have had a rabbit, it was only a little bunny and I named it Mopsy, it was my first ever bunny and it was so small. I could never hold Peter (My sister's rabbit) so Mopsy was the first ever rabbit I could hold. I only had her for about a week and i got such a shock when I saw her in her hutch dead. I cried my eyes out and am still said about it today. I need some advise: If rabbits are only little bunnies is it alright to keep the hutch outside or should you have it in? My advise 2 people with bunnies: Don't feed them lettuce (I found that out the hard way). The biggest fan of this website.
I have an adorable hamster, named 'Fudge'. It is a golden colour, I would of named it 'Honey' but my next door neighbour has that name. I have only had it about 2 weeks. The cage is very big for Fudge (so at least it can run around), this is a funny story so it is worth reading: My hamster knows how to do the monkey bars because when you get him out, he is at the top of the cage, upsidedown on all fours. You can also open it at the side where there are little steps to climb out of. The thing that is funny is that when Fudge wakesn he does the same thing, he goes for food then a drink then waits still near the side where it opens. When I go 'hello' it jumps all excited because when I say that I always open the cage. I love my hamster, it is the best pet I have ever had. SugarLip706@aol.com
This is the very sad story of speckles, a lovely white and black Rabbit, I loved him dearly and I remember the summer we had so much fun, he would run around the garden, doing the things that made me laugh. He would kick his hind legs as he done his "Bunny" hops, he enjoyed the lush green summer grass of our small garden, he would run around making our dog wonder where he would go next. Officially he belonged to my daughter Nikita, but I loved him so much, Ifeel so bad, because I did not pay him the attention I should have, now, sadly he is gone forever, I do not know what killed him or if he suffered any, it is now 11:30pm and I have just laid him to rest in the garden. He must have died last night, I guess, I am feeling so sad. My daughter does not know yet as she was in bed when I found him lying in his cage asleep, I pray he never suffered I guess maybe it was the cold, although I know he had plenty of warm bedding, I even built him a custom made hutch, with two levels, it was his mansion, it even has his name across the door SPECKLES, I painted it white, to reflect the light and make everyone see the lovely home I had built for our rabbit. I will miss him so much and I really do not want to tell our daughter, she is going to be heart broken. Please, if there is a god then take care of Speckles and give him a pleasant place to spend his days with you in eternity. I am so sorry speckles, I will miss you and so will the rest of the family. GOODBYE SPECKLES, WE LOVE YOU AND ALWAYS WILL abbamad001@netscapeonline.co.uk
This is the story of my cat Jordan and his blood brother Goani. Jordan was born in May 1991 and took over my life in July that year. After having all his injections against all sorts of diseases, he had to be "done". This happened in January 1992, and I must admit he did not speak to me for several days. After about a week, I received a telephone call from my Vet. He cheekily asked me if Jordan was okay and told me that Jordan was a very healthy and young strong cat who had all his necessary injections to stay healthy. I knew he was fishing for something and I asked him what he wanted. He then told me that he had a cat in his surgery who was dying of feline leukaemia and the only chance he had was a blood transfusion from a similar healthy and strong cat. Within half an hour I was in the surgery with Jordan and they took blood from him and gave it to this dying cat. I was actually quite upset and I hoped that this cat would make it. The next day I received a telephone call from the owner, who thanked me over and over again. It appeared that Jordan got there just in time and that Goani (the ill cat) had started to improve. Goani's leukaemia was in remission and he lived for another 7 years, Goani's Human and I became firm friends and those two cats had something together (although they never met). Even now after Goani has passed on (he had cancer) we still have a very strong friendship and Tessa and I still talk about Jordan saving Goani's life. To me Jordan is an extra special cat. m.brazier@ukgateway.net
I would like to tell you about "Merlin" a 9month old Yorkshire Terrier who thinks he is a rottweiller. I rescued him from a car boot for £50. It was the best £50 I have ever spent. I also have a 10 year old poodle "Misty" who was not interested in him at all. So we had to buy a small dog to play with"Merlin" we got a puppy LakelandxJack Russell having more Lakeland on his side. Merlin and "Harry" who is now 6 months old are inseperable. Merlin is a toy version Yorkie very tiny, and very silver, he looks like an old man hence the name. Harry & Merlin play tag all over the garden crashing down my gladioli, dahlias, etc; but if they ever have a fight (which they do) they seem to apologise to each other. I am never going to re-home Merlin, he is no longer a rescue dog, he is part of the family and we love him very much. Sharon, Happytails Animal Rescue. dizzy.emmet@ic24.net
Duke our Greyhound is a rescue dog. He has not raced and he was found abandoned in an empty house. He now plays a major part in working with us to help other Greyhounds find homes. We call him the "Ambassador for Greyhounds". We raise funds for Greyhound charities, particularly Greyhounds in Need (Anne Finch's charity). Duke is always there to show people what lovely pets Greyhounds can make. http://members.aol.com/dukiebaby.duke.htm is Duke's own web page. dukiebaby@aol.com
